Objective To investigate the value of changes of serum zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) in the diagnosis of gynecological tumors. Methods The levels of serum zinc and copper in 63 patients with benign and malignant gynecological diseases and 45 healthy people confirmed by histology were determined by air-acetylene flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Results Serum zinc levels in patients with ovarian cancer were significantly lower and serum copper levels were higher than those in the control group (P <0.01 and 0.001, respectively). There was no significant difference in serum zinc and copper levels between the benign tumor group and the control group (P> 0.05). Conclusion Determination of serum zinc and copper content and Cu / Zn ratio can be used as a good reference for the differential diagnosis or chemotherapy of gynecological benign and malignant tumors and prognosis.
