南雄盆地在我国陆相上白垩统—下第三系地层及其生物群的研究中具有相当重要的意义。1976年南雄“华南白垩—早第三纪红层现场会议”之后,南雄盆地上湖组和浓山组被分别确立为我国陆相下中古新统和上古新统的典型层位,坪岭—真仙岩剖面由于剖面清楚、出露良好、各门类化石丰富,被选为罗佛寨群的层型剖面。1978年我队测制了坪岭至真仙岩剖面,系统地逐层采集微体化石样品376个,在其中86个样品中发现介形类,34个样品见轮藻。经室内综合研究,建议将坪岭剖面罗佛寨群划分如下3组7段:
The study of the Nanxiong basin in the terrestrial Upper Cretaceous-Lower Tertiary strata and its biota is of great importance. After Nanxiong “South China Cretaceous-Early Triassic Red-site Conference” in 1976, the Upper Lake Group and the Strong Hill Group of the Nanxiong Basin were respectively established as typical horizons of the Middle Paleolithic and Middle Paleocene in China, Ridge - really immortal rock section because of the clear profile, good dew, rich in various categories of fossils, was selected as the Luo Fozhai group stratigraphic profile. In 1978, our team measured the Pingling-Zhenxianyan section and systematically collected 376 samples of microfossils layer by layer. Among them, 86 samples showed that there were three types of mesomorphs and 34 samples saw Chara. After indoor comprehensive research, it is suggested that the Pingluo profile Luo Fozhai group is divided into 7 groups of 3 groups as follows:
