Traditional tailings dams can be challenged by new technologies that convert byproducts of refined minerals into tailings sludges. Tailings do not need to be built to block the construction of tailings, which can be discarded in the landfill site surrounded by hardened tailings slurry, which may find a more economical solution to the tailings treatment.
