夜读《左传·襄公十五年》,一则不贪为宝的故事,颇有警示意义。宋国时,有人得到一块宝玉,把它献给掌管工程的官员子罕。献宝人说:“我给雕玉的工匠看过,他们认为是真正的宝玉,我才敢拿来献给您。”子罕说:“我认为不贪的品格是珍宝,而你认为那块玉石是珍宝。假如你把玉石给了我,我们不都失掉了自己的珍宝么?所以还是让我们各自保存自己的珍宝吧!”献玉人向子罕跪拜行礼,继续恳求说:“小百姓带着这样值钱的东西,简直不敢出门,我今天把它献给您,是希望能免于横死。”子罕把玉石留下,并叫雕玉匠人帮献宝人雕琢加工后卖掉,使他富裕起来,然后派人送他回老家去。
