开化目莲戏的形成、发展、演变与衰落前后共经历了自清代嘉庆年间至民国时期一百五十多年的历史。由于开化特殊的地理、历史等因素,使其与其他目莲戏略有不同。在随着表演艺人的相继去世,目莲戏已无法整本演出的情况下,笔者对家乡的地方戏———开化目莲戏的音乐作出了一些初步的整理,浅析几个特点,以籍使世人初步了解开化目莲戏,并为深入研究开化仍至浙、皖、赣边界一带的政治历史、社会文化、地理环境及风土人情等方面达到一种抛砖引玉的作用,体现其重要的历史价值和现实意义。
