习语是人类文化的宝藏。它不仅蕴含着深刻的意义而且承载着人类智慧的结晶,同时也是语言和艺术的折射。从习语内容上来看,它是人类智慧的映射,是人们历经多个世纪在处理问题和困难时提取出来的经验。由于不同的历史和文化背景,一种语言中的动物词汇并不总是和另一种语言相对应吻合。人们可以用不同的动物词汇来表达同一感情或同一比喻意义。有时,同一动物表达不同的比喻意义和指示意义。这些有关动物的象征短语源于特定的文化背景,并且它反映出来的语用意义取决于人们对某种特定语言的理解。本文旨在探索中英文动物习语的起源和文化内涵,目的是为能准确恰当的进行中英文语言转换、理解和翻译。
Idioms are a treasure of human culture. It not only contains profound meaning but also carries the crystallization of human wisdom, but also the refraction of language and art. From the perspective of idioms, it is a mapping of human wisdom and is an experience that people have extracted in dealing with problems and difficulties over many centuries. Due to different historical and cultural backgrounds, the animal vocabulary in one language does not always correspond to the other language. People can use different animal words to express the same feeling or the same metaphorical meaning. Sometimes the same animal expresses different metaphorical and instructive meanings. These animal-related symbolic phrases originate from specific cultural backgrounds and the pragmatic meaning it reflects depends on one’s understanding of a particular language. The purpose of this paper is to explore the origin and cultural connotation of Chinese and English animal idioms in order to accurately and properly translate and understand Chinese and English languages.
