《园林》创办于1984年,当时正值我国开始实施以城市为中心的经济体制改革,城市经济迅速发展,但也导致城市生态与环境趋于恶化。如何保护和改善良好的生存环境,引起具有良知和先觉专家们的思考和探索。园林工作者也积极吸收生态学、环境学等理论,反思园林绿化以观赏美化为主体功能的缺陷和不足,积极探讨提高园林绿化对城市生态环境质量改善的作用。
