Using corpus as the foundation and cognitive metaphor as the theoretical framework, we use Chudinov’s metaphor comparison method and the frequency analysis to compare the use of metaphors in the economic crisis of 2008 by the mainstream economic media in Britain and Russia. The results show that there are many similarities between the two languages in high-level conceptual metaphors, but there are still some subtle differences in the frequency of use and language expression. The use frequency of metaphorical expressions in English economic texts is significantly higher than that in Russian economic texts This may be attributed to the metaphorical metaphor of transliteration in the Russian economic texts and, to some extent, the traditional writing of economic texts in the two countries. The pragmatic analysis of the metaphorical corpus of economic crisis in the two countries shows that the Russian metaphor has more pragmatic effect and flexibility in both positive and negative evaluation of economic crisis.
