在党的建设社会主义总路线的光辉照耀下，在以钢为纲的带动下，58年全国掀起了全民大办地质事业的高潮，进行了规模最大的一次地质资源勘查。许多党委书记都亲自率领群众到深山找矿；不少地方的中小学师生、人民解放军，也参加了找矿报矿运动；有些省上山找矿的群众达几百万人。这种声势浩大的群众运动，已促使地质工作进入发展的新时期，为以钢为纲
Under the brilliance of the socialist general line of the party’s construction, driven by the steel industry, the nationwide geology business culminated in the 58th National Congress of the People’s Congress and carried out the largest geological resource exploration. Many Party committee secretaries personally led the people to go to deep mountains for prospecting; in many places, teachers and students of the elementary and middle schools and the People’s Liberation Army also participated in the ore-gathering newspapers and minerals campaign; in some provinces, the number of people searching for ore was up to several million. This massive mass movement has prompted the geological work to enter a new era of development.
