The United States convened the 87th Annual Meeting of the Northwestern Mining Association and Drilling and Drilling Management Symposium in Spokane, Washington from November 30 to December 5, 1981. The first three days held a drilling meeting, with more than 300 participants, and held an annual meeting three days later. Many mining and drilling companies in the states of the western United States and some eastern states attended the conference. More than a dozen universities also sent participants to attend the conference, notably Stanford University, the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Idaho. Dozens of companies in Canada and Mexico also sent representatives to attend the conference. Delegates to attend mainly corporate managers, geologists, engineers, university professors and so on.
