In spite of the different triggers, the same series of molecular events appear to lead to brain cell death in neurodegenerative diseases such as stroke, brain damage and even Alzheimer’s disease. Now, in a new study, researchers from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States said they found exactly one protein at the end of the chain of events, a deadly hit by cell-cutting DNA protein. They say the discovery potentially opens new doors for the development of drugs that prevent, deter or weaken the process. Relevant research results published in Science journals.
