The managers of some of Japan's big chemical companies have just returned from their trip to Europe and the United States. Their purpose of the trip is to find out about the plans of Western companies and to explain Japan's vision for the 21st century. The visit was organized by the Japan Chemical Industry Technology Management Board and led by Yoshikazu Ito, chairman of Toray Industries Ltd. The two development areas highly targeted by Japan are biotechnology and electronics Learn and target the most downstream manufacturing products that U.S. companies think of. As part of its overall strategy, the Federation is working to promote collaborative research among Japanese universities and government agencies. The aim is to bring Japanese industry to the level of U.S. and European rivals that conduct more intensive research.
