To examine the spread of Campylobacter pylori from animals to humans and to assess the level of IgG as an infection predictor, the authors conducted the following study. 98 slaughterhouse workers in Bologna, Italy, were divided into five groups. Except for the first group of staff not directly involved with fresh meat processing, the second to fifth groups were slaughter workers, porters, visceral workers and slaughterhouses. Serum anti-Pylori, Campylobacter jejuni and Klebsiella pneumoniae IgG were detected by ELISA. Results The first group of pyloric bentonite IgG levels were significantly lower than the other groups, while no significant difference between the other groups. Campylobacter jejuni IgG has similar results. Klebsiella IgG did not differ significantly among the groups. Twenty-eight workers with high titer of IgG and one low-titer Campylobacter pylori IgG in the second to fifth groups agreed to do upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and three gastric sinus biopsies were taken for histology
