美国海军的内布拉斯加号潜艇于8月20日发射了一发三叉戟2 D-5导弹,以演示其艇上工作人员具有维护和发射弹道导弹系统的能力。发射是于东部夏令时下午2:27在佛罗里达东海岸以外的美国空军东部靶场进行的,导弹所装弹头为惰性弹头。这次成功的发射使得内布拉斯加号潜艇(SSBN 739)获得了装备三叉戟2 D-5导弹的许可,成为装备这种导弹的第六艘三叉戟级核潜艇。另外还有4艘这种潜艇计划在今后4年里的每年8月交付。
The United States Navy’s Nebraska submarine launched a Trident 2 D-5 missile on 20 August to demonstrate the crew’s ability to maintain and launch ballistic missile systems. The launch was conducted at a U.S. Air Force eastern shooting range outside the east coast of Florida at 2:27 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Missiles were loaded with inert warheads. This successful launch allowed the Nebraska submarine (SSBN 739) to license the Trident 2 D-5 missile as the sixth Trident-class submarine equipped with such missiles. In addition, four such submarines are scheduled to be delivered in August of each of the next four years.
