2010年元月2日,通州已经飘起零星小雪。在低温的威慑下,行人步履匆匆。推开“纽带中英文图书馆”的大门,一股热气扑面而来,同时撞进怀中的,还有一声嘹亮、纯正的美式发音“hello!”打招呼的人是Judy,有着欧美人立体感很强的五官和略显肥硕的身躯。一位穿着极考究的老绅士正在修理门。Judy不时对他的工作发出赞美。他叫Jim,是一位76岁的美国老人。1989年,他第一次来中国,随后,作为工程师,他被派驻到很多省市工作过。2005年,退休后的Jim和妻子Lorene来到北京,决定在此常住。搬过几次家之后,他们找到了自己最中意的地方——通州。2006年,受通州外事办委托,Jim和Lorene成为通州西海子公园英语角的义务外教志愿者。4年了,1000多个风雨无阻的日子,英语角从西海子公园搬到通州东部人才市场,再到西门麦当劳。Jim和Lorene从未爽约,并以其善良和幽默深得英语爱好者的欢迎。2008年,他们的女儿Judy带着外孙女Abby来到通州,也加入到英语志愿者的行列。Jim有一个梦想,就是在通州开一家公益图书馆,让异乡的人们享受到阅读的快乐。为了这个梦想,老两口和几个志愿者付出了很多的努力。经过多年的筹备,“纽带中英文图书馆”(new generation foreignlanguage library)终于在2009年的圣诞节正式开馆。
January 2, 2010, Tongzhou has drifted sporadic light snow. Under the cold deterrence, pedestrians walk in haste. He first came to China in 1989, and later, as an engineer, he was stationed in many provinces and cities. In 2005, retired Jim and his wife Lorene came to Beijing and decided to stay here. After moving home several times, they found their favorite place - Tongzhou. In 2006, commissioned by the Tongzhou Foreign Affairs Office, Jim and Lorene became volunteer volunteers in the English corner of Tonghai’s Xihaizi Park. 4 years, more than 1,000 days of unimpeded weather, the English Corner moved from the West Hai Zi Park East Tong talent market, to Simon McDonald’s. Jim and Lorene never meet, and with their good and humorous English fans won the welcome. In 2008, their daughter, Judy, came to Tongzhou with her granddaughter Abby and joined English volunteers. Jim had a dream of opening a public library in Tongzhou so that people from other places could enjoy the happiness of reading. For this dream, the couple and a few volunteers paid a lot of hard work. After years of preparation, “new generation foreign language library ” (new generation foreignlanguage library) finally opened in Christmas 2009.
