2000年7月在巴黎访问时,在住处忽然接到一位陌生女士的电话,该女士称自己有一半的法国血统,在中国北京居住多年,现在则入了法国籍,定居巴黎;虽然已定居海外,但她关注北京城市建设的一腔热忱不但丝毫未减,还与日俱增。她在电话里说,北京现在对古老的胡同四合院拆毁得很厉害,对此她痛心疾首。她的观点是,北京的胡同四合院一点也不能拆,面对着还在拆的局面,她觉得必须联系更多的人士,同仇敌忾,一致发出强有力的呐喊,以改变眼下的危急趋势。她给我来电话,可见她看得起我。但她大概是个急脾气,电话里没说上几句话,便对我发难:“听说你是主张拆的。你为什么主张拆呢?!”她并没有读过我有关的文字,哪怕草草翻阅过我的那本由中国建筑工业出版社出版的
