义务教育,是依照法律规定适龄儿童和青少年都必须接受,国家、社会、家庭必须予以保证的国民教育,是提高民族素质和培养各级各类人才的奠基工程。《中国教育改革和发展纲要》提出,我国要在本世纪末基本普及九年义务教育,并要全面贯彻教育方针,全面提高教育质量。实现这个伟大的历史任务,社会各方面都应尽到自己的责任和义务。编写、出版《少年儿童系列课外读物》丛书,就是为提高义务教育质量做出的实际努力。
Compulsory education is in accordance with the law. Children and young people of all ages must accept it. National education must be guaranteed by the state, society, and family. It is the foundational project for improving the quality of the nation and cultivating talents at all levels. The “China’s Education Reform and Development Program” proposes that China must basically popularize nine-year compulsory education at the end of this century, and must fully implement the education policy to improve the quality of education in an all-round way. To achieve this great historical task, all aspects of society should fulfill their responsibilities and obligations. The compilation and publication of a series of books on children’s extracurricular reading is a practical effort to improve the quality of compulsory education.
