巴金老人曾用整整八年的时间完成了一部讲真话的大书《随想录》。书成以后,老人真诚地宣布向读者告别,他将搁笔小憩。这一年是一九八六年,老人八十二岁。转眼又是八年过去了,老人迈进了九十大寿。但在这后八年中,老人并没有放下他手中的笔,知识分子的良知和对人类炽热的爱,驱使他一如既往地辛勤劳动着,他一边编校了自己的著作全集和译文全集,写出一篇篇总结自己创作道路的代跋;一边又在与衰老和疾病的抗争中写出了一系列感人至深的短文,怀念故友,抒发暮年之志……在“没有神”的宣言之下,一个无畏的无神论者继续着自己的“再思”。
