苹果电脑公司总裁约翰斯库利先生说“多媒体将在90年代改变整个世界,就如同个人电脑在80年代一样。”。在我国大中城市中,多媒体电脑正在迅速普及,功能更强大、具有家庭影院功能的多媒体家庭影院系统也在逐步走向普及。多媒体的由来信息处理技术有四次革命性飞跃:第一次是印刷术的出现。第二次是无线电和电视的出现,它利用模拟处理技术使得信息得以远距离快速传送。第三次是电子计算机的出现,它利用数字处理技术使信息处理变得更精确、庞大和灵活。第四次革命则是多媒体的出现。
