In April 1997, Japan’s National Institute of Research and Development started a research project to study how to double the strength and life of steels and to reduce the environmental and life-cycle costs of structural materials. The super steel research project plans to take ten years. The researchers intended to develop the following: ① to develop ferritic / pearlite steels with tensile strength of 800 MPa and easy to weld and recycle; ② to develop steels with ultra-high fatigue strength; ③ to develop high-chromium ferrites Heat-resistant steel; and (iv) development of steel that can be used in brine-containing environments without the need for paint or plating. Dr Akira Sato of the Institute for Advanced Scientific Research said: "The steel is in the next world
