On December 11, 2011, the Gansu Provincial CPC Committee convened a meeting, announcing the appointment of Wang Sanyun as the new secretary and standing member of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the CPC, taking the place of Lu Hao.
Lu Hao was born in 1947 and had worked in Gansu for more than 30 years before his retirement. Wang Sanyun was born in December 1952 in Shandong. He once worked in Guizhou Province as the secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Youth League and the Party secretary of Guiyang. From August 1998 he worked in Guizhou, Sichuan, Fujian and Anhui as the deputy Party secretaries of these provinces. In January 2008 he was appointed Governor of Anhui Province.
The outsiders thought highly of Wang Sanyun. One of the reasons is that he solved the problems for Anhui during his tenure in this province as the governor. Previously, Anhui was developing at a slower pace compared with its neighboring Delta of the Yangtze River and the development always swayed among the southern and northern parts as well as the riverside areas of Anhui. Local officials of Anhui believed that Wang Sanyun’s successful experience of developing Anhui earlier than the other provinces in Central China is worth being borrowed by Gansu and other provinces.
Prior to that, the CPC Central Committee decided to nominate Li Bing, former director of the Anhui Provincial Administration Population Planning as a candidate for the Governor of Anhui. On December 11, 2011, she was appointed the vice governor and acting governor of Anhui. She was highly expected to become the only governor of 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China.
