胞质雄性不育系(简称不育系)是向日葵杂交种的母本,是杂种优势利用研究的重要组成部分。要选育出高产高油的优良杂交种,必须首先选育出理想的不育系和恢复系。众所周知,作物育种工作,是一项既复杂而周期又长的工作,并受气候、环境和作物本身等多种因素的影响,所以短期内难以取得卓有成效的育种效果。因此,在育种方法上,要根据作物遗传规律进行创造和探索,不断学习和运用先进经验。不育系选育主要包括两方面工作:1.回交转育工作利用保持型材料,对稳定性不育源进行连续回交转育,经过6~7代即可转育成不育系,而保持型材料成为同型保持系。这种直接回交转育工作比较容易进行。当然,在转育过程中要不断进行选择。
