Three types of carbonic acid can be found in water: free, chelated (carbonate) and semi-compounded. After a series of experiments on the interaction of carbonic acid with concrete, it was confirmed that the destruction of concrete is free carbonic acid and that it is only an unbalanced carbonic acid moiety. A few examples of the carbonation of Portland cement emanating from Reference 1 and the authors’ literature are listed below. In 1949, a concrete foundation made of Dauphin Portland cement was built for the drilling machine at the hydroelectric power plant site at the Ritz-Carlton. A carbonated water was spouted from the well, containing 523 milligrams of free carbonic acid in solution
