南北沟沿是旧地名,按新地名叫白塔寺东街,下游称太平桥大街。此下水道北起西直门内大街,终点接入前三门盖盖河。全长4.64公里。此管道是解放前修建的,论其排水断面和长度属于大的排水干线,担负着内城西半部四分之一面积的排水。就以解放以来的观查,汛期中凡降中到大雨,此下水道就出现满流,接入该下水道的一些支线也发生积滞水情况,尤以二龙路地区的积水最为严重。83年八月四日大雨,
