This article describes the technical specifications and research capabilities of a 6-foot (1.83 m) diameter laboratory rotary cutting tester. The aircraft was contracted by the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) and designed and manufactured by the Colorado School of Mines (CSM). The purpose of the research using this tester is to improve tunnel tunneling machines, shaft drilling rigs, and shaft drilling rigs.
