Focusing on reasons In 1993, when Hainan began to carry out its border trade with Vietnam, its level of development ran alongside almost all of Guangxi and Yunnan. However, by 2006, the total import and export of border trade between China and Vietnam reached 2.5 billion U.S. dollars, including 1.31 billion U.S. dollars in Guangxi, while Hainan Border trade imports are only 43.82 million U.S. dollars, and border trade exports are zero, accounting for only 1.8% of total cross-border trade between the three provinces of Yunnan, Guangxi and Johor. Only Guangxi Dongxing Port, the total value of imports and exports to Vietnam in 2006 amounted to 510 million U.S. dollars, which is 10 times the total value of the border trade of Hainan Province.
