如果说第一代Itanium引入的开放式64位系统体系结构让IT业界兴奋,那么这种兴奋应该源于Intel率领众多软硬件供应商冲进年营业额上千亿美元的高端64位计算领域,而以前这一领域被少数几个厂商所垄断。如果说Itanium 2的发布再次让IT业界兴奋,那么原因在于Itanium 2的性能提高很快。与第一代Itanium相比,Itanium 2使IA64的蓝图变得更接近现实。
