攀钢所处的攀西地区蕴藏着丰富的钒钛磁铁矿,但是用普通高炉冶炼这种矿石是世界近百年来没有解决的技术难题,50年代曾两次把矿样送到国外试验,结果都被宣判为不能冶炼的“呆矿”。我国的科技工作者发扬自力更生、团结求实的科学精神,经过1200多次试验,摸索出普通高炉冶炼钒钛磁铁矿的规律和工艺特征,逐步完善了工艺流程,掌握了具有世界水平的钒钛磁铁矿冶炼技术,独创了雾化提钡工艺,使我国由钡的进口国变成钒的出口国。此外,还开发了铁路用钢许多新产品,填补了国家空白,特别是重轨系列产品在国内外都享有较高声誉。通过回顾历史,我们认识到这样一个真理:没有科技就没有攀钢的今天,也不会有攀钢的明天,攀钢的发展必须自始自终依靠科技进步。基于这样的认识,多年来,攀钢党委始终把科技工作放在企业优先发展的战略地位,高度重视,常抓不懈。
