意大利早期的中国移民主要是第一次世界大战后由法国辗转到意大利的华工和少量留学生。二战期间,中意为敌对国,华侨受到迫害被迫离开意大利。据统计,20世纪70年代,旅意侨胞仅700余人。在意大利,中国移民除少部分为侨居多年的老侨外,现有中国侨民可以说80%以上都是在1989年后进入意大利的,这时期移居意大利的华侨数量增加很快。据意大利国家统计局统计资料显示,截至2006年1月1日,意大利外国移民人数
Early Chinese immigrants in Italy were mainly Chinese laborers and a few foreign students who were removed from France to Italy after the First World War.
