Objective: To investigate the value of umbilical artery blood gas analysis in the diagnosis of neonatal asphyxia. Methods: From May 2010 to July 2011, 180 full-term newborn infants were selected. Umbilical arterial blood gas analysis and 1 min Apgar score were performed at birth. Neonates were divided into apnea group (n = 77) and Apgar group Normal group (n = 103). The results of umbilical artery blood gas analysis were compared between the two groups. Results: The umbilical arterial blood pH, PO2, PCO2 and BE in two groups had statistical significance (P <0.05 or P <0.01). Conclusion: The neonatal umbilical arterial blood gas analysis can be used as an objective index to evaluate the degree of hypoxia asphyxia in neonates, and can guide clinicians to take early treatment for neonatal asphyxia.
