Located on the canal in Huaian City, the Qingjiang River Gate is the only passageway for water transport between the North and the South in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its function is to regulate the flow and water level of the Canal and to ease the turbulent river so that the vessels can pass smoothly. Qingjiang Barrier is the only remaining ancient gate of the Ming Dynasty that is currently the best preserved in the Grand Canal and is also a World Heritage Site - an important heritage site of China Grand Canal. However, with the continuous advancement of modernization and industrialization, there are contradictions between the construction and development of cities and the remains of material culture. Of course, these contradictions can be solved through scientific research and planning. This article discusses the protection and development of Qingjiang gate.
