在英文科技文献中,大量使用着科技术语。一般说来,科技术语只表示一个特定的概念。因此,大多数科技术语都是单意的,在翻译中不会产生多大的困难。 然而,由于一些原因,也有少数科技术语沿袭下来的中文译名不够确切。随着科学技术的发展,还有一些科技术语的涵义已经有所引伸和扩展,有不少文献对它们的翻译不够准确。这里以英语纺织科技文献中出现频率较高的两个专业术语:mam-made fiber和staplefiber为例:
In English scientific literature, extensive use of scientific and technical terms. In general, technical terms only represent a specific concept. Therefore, most scientific and technical terms are unimportant and do not cause much difficulty in translation. However, for some reason, the Chinese translations inherited from a few scientific and technical terms are not sufficiently accurate. With the development of science and technology, there are still some extensions of the meaning of scientific and technological terms and extensions, many of them are not accurate enough for their translation. Here are two technical terms frequently appearing in the English textile science and technology literature: mam-made fiber and staplefiber:
