[题解]本文选自《左传》鲁宣公十五年。宣公十四年(公元前595年)九月,因宋国杀了楚国到齐国去而路经宋国的使者申舟,楚国大军包围了宋国,久攻不下。到宣公十五年(公元前594年)五月,楚国被迫与宋国订立盟约,无功而返。此文叙写了宋与楚讲和的过程,曲折地反映出当时诸侯国间错综复杂的矛盾关系,表现了几个主要人物的性格特点,文字简练生动。[原文]宋人使乐婴齐①告急于晋。晋侯②欲救之。伯宗③曰：“不可。古人有言曰：’虽鞭之长,不及马腹。’天方授楚,未可与争。虽晋之强,能违天乎？谚曰：’高下④在心,川泽纳污,山薮藏疾⑤,瑾瑜匿瑕。’国君含垢,天之道也,君其待之。”乃止。
[solution] This article is selected from “Zuo Zhuan” Lu Xuangong fifteen years.
