From October 9 to 15, 1979, the Ministry of Health held a national symposium on environmental health monitoring in Guilin. The meeting summarized and exchanged experiences since the last session, discussed the “Regulations for Interim Working of Environmental Sanitation Monitoring Stations (Discussion Draft)”, and clarified the tasks and plans for environmental sanitation monitoring in the future. (1) Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, health departments at all levels have done a lot in terms of hygiene supervision, water quality monitoring in rivers, lakes and seas, dynamic monitoring of urban air pollution, establishment of health standards, and research environment on human health.
