胡健中在民国时期是《东南日报》的社长,为人精明,能写善辩.还一度任《中央日报》社社长.大陆解放前夕,朋友曾劝胡健中学《大公报》王芸生的榜样,也留在大陆.但胡健中却决定将《东南日报》迁至台湾出版.1949年初,他派经理刘子润把《东南日报》上海版的机器设备装上太平轮,运往台湾.不料“太平轮”在舟山洋面与“建元轮”相撞,“太平轮”本已超载,一撞马上就沉没.胡健中又想把杭州版的机器设备运到台湾去,但遭到秘书严芝芳的暗中抵制.最后,胡健中只好与几位报社高级领导人匆匆赴台,离开了他生活和工作过几十年的杭州.
During the Republic of China, Hu Jianzhong was the president of “Southeast Daily News” and was smart and able to write etiquette, and was once the president of “Central Daily News”. On the eve of the liberation of mainland China, friends urged Hu Jintao’s “Ta Kung Pao” However, Hu decided to relocate the “Southeast Daily” to Taiwan for publication. In early 1949, Liu Zai-run, his manager, sent the Southeast edition of the Shanghai version of the machinery and equipment to Taipings for shipment to Taiwan. When the ocean surface collided with “Jianyuan”, “Taiping” had been overloaded and immediately sunk after a collision.Hu Jianzhong wanted to transport the Hangzhou version of machinery and equipment to Taiwan, but was secretly boycotted by Secretary Yan Zhifang.Finally, Hu Jianzhong had hurried to Taiwan with a few senior newspaper leaders and left Hangzhou, where he lived and worked for decades.
