If the painter’s works written in recent years are more about expressing the poetic human body and excavating the spiritual connotation of portraits, then the works before and after 2007 apparently have a strong academic exploration significance. Since the establishment of the “Xu Jiang System” of Chinese freehand portraits, the direction of its development has always been the concern of every painter. If we say that the focus of “Xu Jiang System” is the introduction of Western realistic system and a strong realism is injected into it, Zhao Jiancheng’s work in this period is more about the plasticity, possibility and extension of ink-ontology language
