金属基复合材料(Metal-matrix composites简称MMC)是复合材料的一类,与它相类似的还有聚合物基复合材料和陶瓷基复合材料。这些复合材料都含有加强材料(一般呈纤维状)和一种保持材料或称基体。复合的结果是使材料的性能为加强材料和基体两者性能的调合,一般来说,不仅有较高的刚度和强度,并且重量也可减轻。复合材料还有一种新的有利条件,即可按照设计要求,制造各向异性的材料,控制加强材料的纤维形状、长度、数量和取向,就可以使材料的某一方向具有较高的强度。
Metal-matrix composites (MMCs) are a class of composites, and similar to it are polymer-based composites and ceramic matrix composites. These composites contain reinforcing materials (usually fibrous) and a retaining material or matrix. As a result of the compounding, the performance of the material is enhanced by the blending of the properties of the material and the matrix, generally having not only high stiffness and strength but also weight. There is also a new advantage of composite materials, that is, anisotropic materials can be manufactured according to design requirements. By controlling the fiber shape, length, number and orientation of the reinforcing materials, the material can have higher strength in one direction.
