我国黄土分布地域辽阔,黄河流域及其以北各省均有分布,最近南方云、贵地区亦有所发现。不同地区的黄土,自然形成条件差异性往往很大,影响其工程性质也十分复杂,工程界多从黄土的建筑性能出发,将黄土划分为湿陷性黄土和非自重湿陷性黄土,或者将地下水位以下的那部分黄土称为饱和黄土。工程实践证明这样的划分还是很不够的,为使黄土的工程分类定名更为完善、适用,本文搜集了近年来有关科研成果资料,并吸取国外土质学分类定名的经验,提出了关于黄土工程分类定名的初步设想。
