For TIA / EIA’s proposed standard TSB95 and Enhanced Category 5 (CAT5E), the development and formulation is a soap opera. Many articles, including articles from the U.S. CBM, are steadfastly tracking the “trials” of the censorship of the new standards and the ultimate certification they are looking for, with changes that are either surprising or encouraging. When there are only a handful of legacy technical issues, people are looking forward to each TIA / EIA meeting to help solve this problem. However, development is not as fast and straightforward as people might expect. Now it’s all over and the two standards have finally been approved, and they are now part of the promulgated standards. At the moment, there is so much pressure on the Enhanced Category 5 standard, so let’s focus on the TSB95 to see what it actually does, and more importantly, what it means to the wiring industry and the end user.
