Combined with the results of thermoluminescence dating, a recent study of Vistula sedimentary stratigraphy and sedimentary petrology in the lower Vistula region provides evidence of the Drewzski’s earlier dichotomy of the Vistula glacial sequence chronostratigraphy. All of the thermoluminescence ages provided by hydrochemical sediments between moraines and moraine are related to two major sub-glacial stages. According to sedimentary petrology, these two sub-glacial periods appear to represent the following two independent Glacier cycle: the older one is about 59,000 ~ 51,000 years ago; the newer one is about 17,000 ~ 15,000 years ago. The period between the two was named Grudziadz interglacial, which is rather cold. Evidence of this glacial period includes, apart from glacier deposits, some of the fillings of the icy river cutting trenches, marine deposits of loess-like silt, fossil sand wedges and transgressions during the early deicing operation. The latter appears in parts of the northern part of the region.
