The earliest five imperialist countries to invade North Korea are France. French aggression often uses Catholic missionaries as vanguard units, as it did in North Korea. (Note 24) In the 1930s, French missionaries stole the Yalu River from China and entered North Korea to conduct missionary missions. In a secret letter to the bishops found in Beijing, North Koreans hoped that European Catholic countries would send 60,000 to 70,000 troops to “conquer” North Korea.
