建设高质量的师资队伍,是全面推进素质教育的基本保证。全面推进素质教育,就必须提高教师队伍素质。作为教师教育的重要组成部分和具有战略意义的重大工程,教师继续教育是切实提升教师队伍素质的有效手段,同时也是当今师资队伍建设中的重中之重。随着教育改革的推进,学校体育面临着许多新的变革与挑战。首先,教育对象有新的特点:学生中独生子女比例与日俱增,可他们缺乏体育锻炼意识,造成体质状况开始滑坡;其次,培养目标向着多元化方向发展,形成一个健美、保健、学生全面发展的新目标体系,重点强调体育对人的全面发展的作用;第三,体育教学内容也有新的变动,充实了有较高锻炼价值和实用价值的健身内容,增添了部分民族传统体育项目和适应现代生活方式的舞蹈健美、韵律体操等。学校体育为适应培养目标和教学内容的变革,必须要突破传统体育教学模式的束缚,从教学实际出发。体育教师也要清醒地认识到这些变革所带来的影响、适应这些变革。在变革中不断地对体育教学工作中出现的新问题进行研究,不断地提高教学水平与教学能力。而继续教育就是帮助体育教师适应这些变革的有效途径。
