2002年1月24日,钱其琛副总理在纪念江泽民总书记《为促进祖国统一大业的完成而继续奋斗》重要讲话发表七周年座谈上指出:“两岸双方先后加入世界贸易组织,为发展两岸经贸关系提供了新的契机。我们愿意听取台湾各界人士关于建立两岸经济合作机制、密切两岸经济关系的意见和建议,共谋两岸经济合作的新局面。”钱副总理这一讲话,充分反映出祖国大陆为进一步深化两岸经济交流与合作所做出的持续努力,再度引起了海内外诸多学者的关注。应当说,在目前两岸关系仍陷于政治僵局的情况下,积极探索两岸经济合作机制的具体模式与内容,对于推动新世纪初两岸关系的深入发展,具有十分重要的积极意义。
