何坚宁的油画艺术给人印象深刻,他所关注的并非重大的社会问题,而是以丰富的视觉语言表达人性的美好与丰富。如果认为何坚宁的艺术只有色彩语言而没有观念,是一种误解。正是对艺术造型和色彩语言的理解表达,构成了何坚宁对于油画艺术的朴素观念。苏高礼教授在中央美术学院油画研修班的教学过程中反复强调对造型与色彩规律的认识,他说:“对造型、色彩等绘画体系中的一些最重要的内部关系和原则一定要花气力去认识和掌握,我们认为这是学习油画的本体论问题,也是中国人学习油画最难解决的带有观念性的问题。”
