Researchers at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, United States, published a paper in Chicago saying they have convincing evidence that the world’s 35 million people infected with HIV originate from chimpanzees in West Africa. The researchers said that chimpanzees carry the virus may have been hundreds of thousands of years of history, but this animal is not disease. So figuring out how chimpanzees fight this virus infection is of great importance to the prevention and treatment of AIDS in humans. A team from the University of Alabama using molecular analysis techniques to study four isolated virus samples found that three of these viruses had very similar genetic characteristics to HIV in the human body. These three viruses come from the apes, this category
