1981年,一位香港回乡创业的惠东人,在黄埠镇办起惠东第一家鞋厂,当时鞋厂是简单的家庭式手工作坊,工人大多数都是“洗脚上岸”的农民。惠东县皮革行业总会会长陈镜波就是其中一员。虽然不久之后,鞋厂倒闭,但是制鞋产业却在惠东落地生根,这里也成为全国最早的鞋类生产基地。时至今日,每天都会有200万双女鞋从惠东流出,一个月的鞋产量头尾相连,足够能绕地球一圈多。
