中国是一个地震多发的国家。根据历史典籍记载,我国至少发生过10000次地震,其中有破坏性的近3000次,8级以上的特大地震有18次。1556年,陕西华县发生地震,83万人死亡,是有记载的死亡人数最多的一次地震。我们对地震的认识还不充分,特别是对地震预报的准确性还很没有把握,因此,地震就以其突发性和不可预知性尤其加重了人们的恐怖感。在汉语中,“天崩地裂”、“天塌地陷”、“地动山摇”
