December 1 US Exxon and Mobil announced the two sides reached a merger agreement. The newly formed company is named after ExxonMobil. The former Exxon shareholders will own about 70% of the combined new company, while the former shareholders of Mobil owns the remaining 30%. The combined transaction amount was 77 billion U.S. dollars, with a market capitalization of 242 billion U.S. dollars, total assets of 139.62 billion U.S. dollars and total operating income of 202.3 billion U.S. dollars. The merger of Exxon and the United States is by far the largest merger in the industry and the new merger will be the largest oil company in the world.
