奉新的书院,自南唐以来,仅就康熙、乾隆、同治、道光四部县志及《甘竹胡氏十修族谱》所记载,即有四十六所。奉新的书院,就名称来看,有的以人命名,如董侯书院、二何书院、陈先生书院、小峰精舍等;有的因地命名,如郁竹书院、南垣书院、车坪书院、冯川书院等;有的以山命名,如华林书院、岐峰书院等;有的因事因物命名,如梧桐书院,因山多梧桐,故名梧桐书院。还有的以人的别号命名,如东瓯讲
