画坛巨擘吴湖帆(1894-1968),出生于苏州名门望族。他酷爱书画,收藏甚丰,家藏渊源,汇集了——祖父吴大澂“愙斋”所藏、外祖父沈韵初“宝董阁”所藏、岳父潘祖年之兄潘祖荫“攀古楼”所藏之遗存珍品。而且本人精于鉴赏,又收集了大量传世佳品,成为当代著名收藏家。我国不少名人学者都喜欢以收藏的文物给自己取号,或以此给自己的居室、书斋命名,以表其志。吴湖帆在收藏过程中,流传着不少这类趣闻轶事。
